If you've played Total Annihilation, don't even bother with the tutorials or manual- you know how to play already. There are no significant differences between the two games, except that the graphics engine is newer and the maps are larger. Fortunately, TA was such a good game that this isn't really a bad thing; in fact, in many respects Supreme Commander is a lot like the excellent Medieval II: Total War- a graphical redux of a classic strategy title.
