I purchased an internal 802.11g for my oldest daughter to connect to the internet wirelessly. After having to re-install it a couple times due to it failing to receive signal I thought I'd try this unit for my younger daughter. from Tigerdirect.com Bought 2 about 3 weeks ago, hooked right up and I was off! Ordered another one as I have gone to wpa security and my old 802.11b won't run it. Networked 4 computers and 2 printers together with them no problems from Tigerdirect.com Arrived on time and in excellent condition as always with Tigerdirect. I was unsure of the brand since I have never tried Trendware. I installed it and it works better than my previous Motorala Wireless USB adapter. from Tigerdirect.com First off, it LOOKS very cool, and feels good to roll around in your hand, flip the antennea up and down, etc. Secondly, I have another Trendnet inexpensive card in an old desktop, and it runs just fine. But for the TEW-424UB, I have to agree with the mediocre level of enthusiasm that seems to be the consensus. It works, to a degree, but it does drop out and doesn't seem to pick up signals as strongly as my other cards throughout the house. from Amazon.com This got a much more reliable signal for me than my previous usb 802.11 adapters. However, the drivers caused my Windows XP machine to freeze up completely, requiring a hard reset, every 5 minutes until I gave up and uninstalled the drivers. from Amazon.com I purchased the TEW424UB so I could upgrade to the stronger WPA2-PSK (aka WPA2-Personal) encryption. This unit replaced a D-link adapter running WEP-64. from Amazon.com I was excited that as a low-priced product from a budding company, this would have to be the best bet. It did do wonders for my old desktop that I'm actually getting great network connection even when the signal was "very low." The problem however was that the TEW424UB was not backwards compatible with USB 1.1 as the manufacturer suggested. After about a month of struggling with dropped signals, and the device itself being dropped by my PC, I almost gave up and had to buy a USB 2.0 card (assuming that it would make it work.) Fortunately, it had, and now I am typing this review with my old PC on a wireles USB. from Amazon.com The adapter came with a 3" USB flex-firm extension cable that can be used to adjust the adapter's antenna direction or to fit the adapter into a cramped USB port area. I purchased two of these wifi adapters and each installed without a problem on two different machines (Epox and Asus motherboards both running Windows XP). The only problem I experienced is the device sometimes connects at only 5.5 Mbps and not the maximum 11.0 Mbps that my very nearby Netgear 802.11b wireless router supports. This isn't a problem when using my DSL Internet connection but it is a problem if I'm transferring large files between my two machines via my wireless LAN. from Amazon.com No issue here. Using this device on a 2nd XP computer for wireless internet access. Using it with a 802.11b Netgear router. Set up was easy. from Amazon.com I used this for several months before finally giving up and replaced it with a DLINK G122.
