the auto focus is fast and accurate.
only problem i noticed is chasing the focus; any movement in front of the camera will put it in a mode trying to auto-focus and lose focus of the main object.
i pumped it up to 8.0 mp and put my eye as close to the camera as i could get it waited a few seconds for auto focus and took a picture and it came out so clearly i could study the pattern in my own
one caveat: although there is an autofocus feature, you will get out of focus if you get too close to the camera but you can quickly see this on screen and correct it.
it focuses nicely and works great in lower light situations.
at first i didn't know how to focus it but then bam!
my pro will always adjust and do a great job of focusing.

imaging is fairly good but it could be better; it does not have an automatic focus which does not allow you to move to much when using the camera but it is perfect for skype or messenger.

the no-software camera has automatic focus so sometimes you may have to shift this way or that to get "in shape" on the other end.

the quality of the still images is excellent, however, the video image quality is sometimes a little blurry and it cannot be rectified using the focus wheel.
it works great with poor light in the room, and it focuses just fine, both close and distant objects.

the logitech quickcam orbit af is another high end camera that also has some auto-focus features at a higher price tag, around $100.
another drawback, although most webcam may have this fault is that you cannot focus closer than ~20cm.

the lens is also a true auto focus which is pretty cool in a webcam and an indicator of quality.

camera has manual focus ring that you probably need to adjust once.
when i reached up to adjust the focus, my hand blocked out the item i was attempting to focus on.
i found the mechanical focusing difficult compared with other webcams.
once you figure out how to focus the camera (you have to spin the lens as opposed to some setting in the software) you can achieve good resolution.
i tried the webcam in low light conditions at first and it automatically focused and lighten the view and it was clear.
the image quality is very very good, it's fixed focus lens is optimized at 21-60 inches, which i find perfect when i use my laptop on my lap.
really, not much configuration was necessary out of the box because the focus, brightness, contrast and color was quite accurate.

the autofocus works great, so you don't have to adjust the focus every time you change position.
i dislike needing to adjust the focus with the 3000 and the coloring in my fairly dark basement is always terrible so i thought i'd give this a try.
it's an interesting novelty for my kids, it kept them focused on it longer than they would have otherwise because i could make their face funny in a different way every few minutes.
