Today's washing machines come with so many ratings, features, and gadgets that it's easy to forget the appliance's primary purpose: cleaning our clothes. Every washing machine on the market will clean your clothes, but some are designed to do a better job than others. When considering a new washing machine, consider these details to help you in your search.
LOAD TYPE
Both front-loading and top-loading machines can clean clothes ably, but front-loading machines get a better score on average. These machines use less energy, less detergent and less water. And since little water is used, your clothes come out dryer and won't wear out as quickly from prolonged exposure to water.
DISPENSERS
Built-in dispensers ensure that the right amount of detergent, softener and bleach are introduced to each load at the right time and in the correct quantity. The result? A cleaner batch of clothes less stressed from too much product. At a minimum, you should look for a detergent and/or fabric softener dispenser.
EXTRA SETTINGS & PRESETS
Presets allow a machine to operate in an optimal manner for specific types of laundry: permanent press, delicates, hand wash, cotton and more. A versatile machine will allow you to get the most from all of your laundry and minimize trips to the dry cleaner, shredded delicates and wear and tear on gentler clothes.
