i got in a waffle making mood used a whole box of aintya momma pankcake mix and a pint of blue berries, first one was great.
i had to remove the screws and basically take the whole thing apart to get it really clean.
a) instead of 2 cups of all purpose flour, i used 3/4 c whole wheat flour and 1 1/4 c all purpose flour
other amazon reviews (which taken as a whole, i rely on quite a bit for honest reporting)
make sure you have non-stick spray, cuz that's the only way you'll get your waffles whole--i found that out my first time using it.
the whole first batch stuck to the iron before i decided to use some oil spray.
i have to disagree with some of the complaints about the handle insulation - this unit isn't a panini press, and doesn't require you to grip it with your whole hand and yank up.
also, the six waffle size gets breakfast to the whole family much faster.
the whole appliance is well balanced and does not wobble when the top is raised.
we are really into 100% whole wheat waffles with fresh fruit on top.
i make a whole grain/high protein version.
it came out whole with no gymnastics (or fork) and it was ready for the next one.
there is a whole wheat recipe in the owner's guide that is very good.
it was highly rated by most other reviewers and i wholeheartedly agree.
they have streamlined the whole machine so it sits even nicer on your kitchen counter and the pizzelles that it makes are great.
you can also substitute stevia or warm honey for sugar, and whole grain flour for bleached.
i don't think it's necessary to add any additional butter/oil, if you carefully pry an edge up, you can slide a spatula underneath and lift the whole waffle out pretty easily.
when i use a lower setting the whole waffle is under-cooked.
the bottom is plastic which is a drawback but the unit as a whole is hefty and has a nice cord storage area that actually works easily.
i make a lot of whole wheat waffles for my grandchildren, which they freeze and eat as snacks throughout the week.
the reason i say that my needs are demanding is that i try and produce healthy waffles, using whole grain batters, low fat or even fat-free batters, sugar-free batters, etc.
- even cooking and browning across the whole surface
each round waffle is baked in a way that the whole waffle can easily be split into quarters without having to cut it.
our whole family is pleased with this product.
it really does work well and it is great for the whole family to have hot waffles instead of waiting forever for just one.it hasn't disappointed me yet!
the recipe (just add water and oil...and thin batter is better than thick) is a snap and with two large waffles cooked to perfection at once, the whole family get's to eat breakfast together.
our favorite is whole wheat pancakes.
