and it's been pretty easy to clean -- it just wipes clean since the plates aren't removable.
the griddle temperature is not adustable so doneness is accomplished by guessing the right amount to time to leave the waffle in.
the waffle maker is a cinch to use...a light brushing of oil over each grid and no sticking whatsoever.
my only complaint is that i'd prefer the plates be removable, but it really isn't hard to clean at all.
when i unpacked the iron and set it on the counter, i noticed that the upper grid "floated" slightly when the grids were resting at the left side of the hinge.
the waffle grid is fairly easy to clean, but if you have enough fat in the batter, there is no cleanining necessary because nothing sticks to the grids.this is a wonderful waffle maker and i highly
the reason i like it better is that the grid holes are smaller which lends itself better to softer waffles, especially ones with chocolate chips, blueberries or other ingredients that taste better
i've tried a few different waffle makers, belgian and the smaller grid traditional ones.
the circular shape of the grid with the five radii as dividers allows the batter to flow evenly across the grid with no spreading or coaxing needed.
i use this waffler when i want something with a traditional american sized grid pattern.
clean up was very easy, as i opened up the unit and exposed both grids to allow the waffle maker to cool down.
the oster flip is sturdy, the non-stick griddles are non-stick and thick, it cooks thoroughly, the operation is straigthforward, and the waffles are thick, light and crisp on the outside.
normal cooking cycle is to heat unit till green light comes on, open waffle iron, hit the grids with some oil spray if first waffle, lay on the batter, close and flip, green light will go out as iron
grids don't get hot enough, outside gets too hot, hard to clean.
we have alsobeen looking for the old fashioned grid other than thebelgian with the large grids.....i thnk we will be enjoyingthis unit for some time.....like the size, teflon coatingand buzzer and etc
stores easily and cleanup of the grids is a snap.
it would be nice if they were removable so they could be washed, but i suppose that would just add to the price.
you can reverse the waffle iron non-stick sides, and turn it into a griddle, or even better a sandwich cooker.
but if you are looking for a functional waffle maker with removable plates so they are easier to wash then this one does the trick.
the waffle grids are teflon-coated and the non-stick surface works fine as long as your batter has enough butter or other shortening and/or you grease the grid when you start.
it also creates extra griddle space for making loads of pancakes
i could not believe the price on the waffler/griddle!
it just takes a little practice to know how much to drop on griddle and how long to cook it for.
it takes a little trial & error to get the perfect placement of batter on the iron grids.
i was concerned because the grids did not come out for cleaning but after 2 months of heavy use (i was in pizzelle withdrawl, had to make lots) i have had no problems.
a guidebook provided, with recipes, was also beneficial and had some basic tips as well.if i were shopping again, i would consider looking for one with removable plates for washing ease; however,
as the amazon product description states, the extra thick grids and generous spill trough keep overflows to a minimum...actually i haven't had any overflows.
i brushed the grids with real butter before heating it up and did not regrease.
the waffle is deep allowing the warm butter and warm syrup to just pool in the grids.
its best features are its space-saving size, lightweight, attractive design, and its consistent, even cooking--nothing sticks to the grids.
i just love this waffle maker as i don't have to grease the grids plus the timer is independent from the maker.
waffle quality: the baker flips the batter upside down, coating the grid evenly, so the waffles are lighter.
you don't need to oil the griddles.
and the timer will remind you of your waffles so you do not burn them while turning your back to flip the bacon on the griddle.
compared to the waring, the waffles depth (gap between the 2 grids) is bigger, which results in heavier waffles.
low fat and oil free batters will stick to the grids.
the griddles are much easier to clean than the old iron with dimples in each little square.
it takes some adjusing to the baking powder amount in the recipe and how you position the batter on the iron to minimize the overflow of batter because the grid is not the conventional square.
i sprayed the grids with cooking spray and poured in 2 cups of (a thick) batter, spreading it evenly with a spatula before closing the lid.
make sure to season the griddle extrememly well.
cleanup of both griddle and exterior is quite easy, and price is reasonable.
