I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend who had a hankerin' for some waffles. She talked about one that her Grandmother had and that she wish she had it. So off to Cooking.com to shop. This was the only unit that received excellent reviews from all other purchasers, so I was attracted to it. I looked at the features and I like the fact that the pans can be taken out and washed ... it seemed to me that trying to clean a waffle pan with all the ridges would be tough. I also thought that an oval waffle maker would not be a shape that I'd want. After getting the maker, we made regular waffles, pumpkin waffles, and savory waffles with brown rice, green onions, and shitake mushrooms. All three were quite good and turned out perfect -- she loved the savory and I liked just the plain waffles ... with fresh strawberries and maple syrup, of course. Btw, not only did we like it, but her other friends were ogling it and really wanted to know how well it worked and were surprised it wasn't very expensive. I won some kudos for being the good boyfriend on that one. I would say buy this one because it makes great waffles (crusty on the outside and soft on the inside), is very well made, looks great and is, fundamentally, fool proof to use. from Cooking.com The Krups Waffle Maker is terrific and worked perfectly the first time! For fantastic light, crisp-on-the-outside, melt-in-your-mouth waffles, I use the Best Ever Waffle recipe from MrBreakfast.com. The only modifications I make are adding 1 teaspoon vanilla and using about 1 cup batter for each waffle. This recipe makes 4 very large waffles and contains enough vegetable oil that it is unnecessary to spray the grids for easy release. I have had Krups appliances in the past and the reliability sold me, along with good customer reviews. I've had mine several months and have no complaints. They make great waffles and I love the variable temp control. I don't mind that it doesn't have a beeper to tell me when it's done, it's not too hard to tell by watching the steam. When it stops steaming, it's done.I particularly like how easy it is to clean. I would recommend using high temp Pam for grilling because they never stick and you hardly ever have to wash the plates. If you do, they're easy on and off. If this lasts the 30 years my Krups mixer has lasted, I'll really be happy. from Sears.com
