the amount of resolution only has to do with how close to the tv you need to sit and i suppose overall fps, but how much smoother can you expect things to get?

besides, the only thing i can think of that really needs top-notch graphics are fps, such as ghost recon: advanced warfighter, so you can snipe enemies without a scope from across the course.
