at present, it's limited to providing a connection for the ac power adapter to recharge the battery, but it will eventually be used to connect to some forthcoming micro-specific accessories.

another bad thing about it is that in canada and the us, you have to buy the accessories (because you can't use the gba accessories)from the nintendo store website.
