Sometimes,
you need to spend a bit more money for a common appliance to help
prevent common illnesses. The right vacuum can remove the dust and dirt
that causes those irritating allergies that so many have to struggle with
daily.
Look first for the vacuum's CFM (cubic feet per minute) rating. The CFM rating measures how much air moves through the machine. The movement of air is responsible for picking up dirt; thus, the higher the CFM rating, the more dust gets picked up by the vacuum. It is also a plus if the machine has a special charcoal filter that not only absorbs cooking odors and cigarette smoke but helps to manage pet odors.
Be aware: The filtration rating is nothing but a
misleading figure to make the machine appear to be high quality when in fact
it doesn't reflect the cleaning ability of the machine at all.
Another
important tip is to buy a vacuum that uses a
regular bag system. A bag traps dust, debris and other pollutants and
keeps them
completely sealed, whereas a bagless system could release all of that
dust back onto your carpet. You may even want to try the new
ultraviolet
vacuums that can effectively eliminate dust mites and kill up to 99% of
other micro-organisms.
