The Bottom Line: Convenient, but not a substitute for professional whole house rug cleaning.? OK for small area cleaning.? Wet/dry vac may work just as well for spot cleaning. I paid $199 at a membership warehouse store for the Bissell ProHeat 2X. We would have had to move the smaller furniture out to "heaven-knows-where." In addition, the job the professionals do has never been as good as what this machine did, and the professionals have always left my carpets saturated so that it took 2 to 3 days to completely dry. from Amazon.com I phoned the 1-800 number and was told the nearest authorized repair shop (SeaCoast Vacuum Hospital, Seabrook, NH) was 60 miles from my home. I called and was told to bring it in for a repair estimate. After driving to Seabrook, Seacoast told me it wouldn't repair my unit because Bissell did not reimburse them enough to cover the time needed to repair the unit. So true!!! from Amazon.com I was skeptical at first..where I live everything and everyone brings and tracks in dog hair, cat hair, dirt, snow, gravel etc..and although after pulling up the carpet 5 yrs ago except for the upstairs...more on that later..my beloved moose carpet 8x10 feet had had enough.. I vacuum..lots and i mean lots...so in choosing this "steam cleaner" i also wanted bare floor attachement, but needed something that could handle the animal hair and debris..the pooper is getting older and sheds a lot and tracks a lot in...after standing in the middle of sams club with the unit in cart...i spoke with the cust svc rep at bissell...although the 9500 model has the attachment there was no difference other than that supposedly than my model 8960..except the price of 380.00..sams was 219.00 for the pet pro2x 8960, the 9500 was the 380.00w/bare floor attachment...but for 3.00 i could order the attachment for the 8960...i interrogated the rep for 15min..to find that was the only difference..and suprisingly she agreed..just get the attachment..so as i wait for the attachment, i cleaned 1 lounge chair, and my moose carpet.. OMG..even with my obsessive vac jobs, i missed so much hair..this machine sucked my carpet clean and dry and it looks brand new (til breakup anyway)..the chair came out cleaner than i imagined it ever could -its ancient so it wont ever be new, but the colors came out and so did the dirt! from Amazon.com This time I've got the internet and was able to do some research. My carpet is 16 years old and it still looks dirty in areas when the professionals leave. The Bissel 9400 Proheat 2x cleaned it and i went over it kind of fast.
