i first used it on the carpet at my dad's house...he had just vacuumed 2 days before, and the optima picked up a good amount of dust and cat hair that his bagless vacuum missed.

beside this i made good use of my vacuum and it picked up my long hair well (although i cleaned the brush after every use, by cutting off my hair) and was light and easy to use.

this vacuum has such a powerful suction that it really can substitute for a regular vac in a home w/rugs (carpets may be too much but it does a great job on bare floors).

i wouldnt recommend it for anyone with only carpeting to vacuum, however it does an excellent job on hard floors, area rugs and stairs .
