i like the fact that it has a very compact form factor with flexible cables and mini-usb.
also, one of the four ports is really a mini-usb plug, with an extra conversion on it.
although i've not used it yet, i also like the built-in mini-usb connector.
a problem i commonly encounter with usb ports is that some devices are really big and they take up all the space so you can't plug in another usb device next to it.
the reason i didn't give it 5 stars is because i couldn't plug the wireless keyboard usb and the wireless mouse usb into this squid usb.
it's the perfect item to be able to use a large monitor, floppy drive, or any usb device on my laptop.
the hub works well and we would recommend it for anyone who needs a small usb hub.
nice and small, so it does not take up much desk space, but the cord is very short, so you will probably need to have a usb extension cord to sit it on your desk.
this star tech usb hub arrived quickly and solved a couple of problems - 1) now i can plug everything in, and 2) my usb headset for skype used to be plugged into my keyboard and the skype connection
plugged it into an xp tower and also a thinkpad 600x (1999) and it worked on both units without a hitch.

my computer was windows me, upgraded to xp, and it found drivers and installed in a matter of seconds automatically.
note: to counter incorrect review information - -(1)- this hub *does* work with vista, however it is not 'certified' by d-link and therefore not a logo'd product.
oh, wait, actually, the only problem with it is that i can't fill all the usb ports :-p a truly great product!
this is a great product for laptop users who need more than one or two usb ports.
way to get hooked up with multiple usb's date:?november 5, 2008 proscompact, lightweight & plug-in's are one over another not side by side allowing for plenty of room for wider usb plugs.
the problem with my old hubs (they were also powered hubs btw) was that although they claimed to be 2.0 hubs i kept getting messages from windows that one of my usb devices would operate better if i
although i've only used this hub at a home it could just as easly be taken with my laptop and used on the road.
this hub is perfect, fast, compact and i love the fact that you can mount it and still detach for portability with no problem.
nice that for the price it comes with the ac adapter to ensure you have enough power to handle whatever you plug into the hub.
this device works fine, and doesn't require the power brick provided, assuming you plug it into a powered usb port.
it works just great.the usb plugs are spaced nice not to close together.no usb cables fell out.
it's small, so it doesn't take up much room, and one can plug just about any usb device they want into it.
this hub is small but works as it should.

this thing works really well- however, you have to plug in two usb plugs (they do come with it) if you plan on charging an ipod on it.
exceptional product by targus; just plug and use, nothing special needed.
it is small, offers a lot of ports, and the unique top port makes using a usb thumb drive even easier.
handy hub with 7 ports and it includes a led light that plugs into usb port for helping light up keyboard
weight keeps it from moving and with plugs for 7 usb devices, it fits the bill nicely.
the product comes with a plug that enhances the hub's speed and probably requires less of the computers power.
i needed an easy access hub that was vista compliant, this hub was as easy and good as the manufacturer advertises.
it is then connected through a belkin usb kvm to pcs running win xp and linux.
i purchased the belkin f5u234 usb hub yesterday and have been very pleased with how it painlessly connected all of my usb devices.
i plugged it in and it worked...at usb 2.0 speeds.
because it only has 2 usb ports and they are awkwardly located in the back of the tower, i bought this device to connect my peripherals more conveniently.
on the targus i kept getting the "connecting usb 2.0 high speed device to usb 1.0 hub" message from windows xp.
there are definitely fancier hubs out there, but what this targus hub perhaps lacks in beauty, it certainly makes up for in performance.
you can connect 4 usb devices, it provides overcurrent protection against short-circuits and electrical overloads, and all you have to do is simply plug and play!!!
targus' own package tells you practically nothing, except for its cryptic reference to having a 'y-cable.' so here's a full description: the product is very small, with four type a usb ports, and
i am using it on a laptop that only has one 1.1 usb on it.
received the usb hub and plugged it in.
i have had no problems with this device, the speed is fine and without additional ac support, you plug it into your usb port and its ready to go.
i have a printer, ipod dock, and kid's video game hooked up to it and it doesn't require the red power usb connection.

i have a gateway desk top pc & it comes with a usb mouse, usb speakers and all that stuff (plus with yucky vista that i'm not to thrill about).

just plug it in and hook up my usb devices and that's it.
my finicky development machine has some problems with its usb connectors, but this hub has cured it.
i bought this product to give more power to my magic jack phone so i could have no connection problems with international calling.
plug and play.
i have used it with xp and vista with no issues.
so games might suffer if you don't have a large enough power supply, the extra power to the usb hub itself powers those usb devices- and your psu can be used for more demanding things inside the case
i'm actually creating my newegg account to buy a second for use with my laptop, rather than screw around with an unknown model.
it is simple to use, just plug into laptop's usb port (don't need internet to download softwares).
i use this hub with my laptop, love that it is powered by my laptop and i don't need a bulky ac adaptor.
it simply plugs in to a usb port abd voila!

i take it with me when i leave my house and go to my ranch office.
i have a laptop which i move around a lot, so this was perfect for me.
when removed, it acts as a standalone, non-powered travel hub, great for laptop use.
i have a macbook pro and it just has 2 usb ports and i wanted more, so i just sat online and browsed through a large variety of usb hubs on amazon, but ended up buying this one.
the iogear 4 port usb 2.0 microhub is a very nice product, only weakness that i come across is the cord is very short.
summary: the iogear 4 port usb 2.0 microhub is a very nice product, only weakness that i come across is the cord is very short.
the hub comes with a short 2" usb pigtail, which is good for using it on the go with a laptop.
although it comes with a a/c adapter, you can drop it if you are not using lots of power consuming usb device!best for laptop users!
(edited august 27th by cjcpeter) it's a usb 2.0 spec light weight and portable hub with a silver appearance and a small size.
i only wish windows would recognize the usb switching faster but that has nothing to do with this product.
well, i have been using the hub for our epson printer, my laptop and my wife's tower system and it has always changed when toggled, and the printer works when selected.
we hook it up to each laptop and use it as, essentially, a toggle switch.
i use it to share a mouse and a keyboard between two pcs (both xp-window pro).
as it turns out it's a windows xp problem.
this is a quality product and works as you would expect; however, it is a bit larger than i imagined from the photo in the description.

nothing flashy about it, but the two top ports are convenient for things that you will connecting and disconnecting, such as jump drives and mp3 players with integral usb connectors.

simple instructions - plug it in and it works like a charm.i highly recommend both amazon and the product manufacturer.
i use it when my laptop is on my desk so that i only have one usb plug to plug in and out.

my two targus mini-hubs (one an earlier 1.1, the other a 2.0 -- bought after the demise of the two d-links) are ultra-compact, don't seem to want a power supply,& have worked very well on four pcs
i'd recomend this product for both laptop and desktop owners looking to expand their usb space.
this adapter is a little too heavy for a laptop (unless you brace it up from the bottom) since it uses a usb hub and is weighted down (bends) when three or more items are pluged into it.
thei produce is not that durable but it does the job for desktops and laptops.
for what's it's worth it's fast, has no issues reading any form of media, and has great connectivity.
this product offers seven usb ports which is extremely helpful in a household with many ipods, digital cameras, flash drives, etc., etc.
the product works without the ac adapter but it cannot charge ipods without having the ac adapter plugged in.
i've got an old ibm laptop which only has two slow usb ports - have just connected this up and it's fast!
it's comes with an ac power brick that's about the same size as the hub, but it doesn't bother me none.
i've had this usb hub for ~2 months now...it's worked perfectly for every item i've plugged in (camera, ipods, etc.).
