And of course, they need the printer, to copy their beautiful artwork. And they need to be online so they can play their educational games on Noggin.com. Obviously, I needed the Pro-Connect USB 2.0 4-Port Hub from Linksys. It works great. from Bhphotovideo.com Also unit is light and cables have their way with it. Maybe a little thicker plastic or metal base to add some substance to the unit? Other Thoughts: I've had good luck based on reviews with Linksys and their WRT54GL router and CM100 cable modem that solved a few years of flakiness with my wireless network and cable service reliability. One day the 4-port hub is working fine and the next day, only 1 port worked. Other Thoughts: I am not sure about the "shelf life" of these hubs, but 18 months seems rather short. from Newegg.com I have an iMac (2.33 GHz, 24" Aluminum, Mac OS X Leopard) and a 160 GB iPod Classic. When the iPod is plugged into the Linksys hub, iTunes reports that the iPod is connected to a low-power, low-speed USB 1.1 hub. XP Pro reported the USB Port experienced a "Power Surge" and advised disconnecting the device. Now, this is one of the more-expensive USB 2.0 Hubs out there and Linksys/Cisco is a well-known, well-advertised, highly-reputable company. It would be rather easy to say very nasty things about this product and/or this company in general, but I decided (instead) to contact their support site for a possible RMA and replacement. from Newegg.com I just set up the Linksys USB hub and it seems to set-up and work fine but there are two annoyances: 1) you have to find yet another electric outlet-- I could do without the lights on it if it ran off of computer power and 2) the supplied USB cable is too short to get from a desktop computer on the floor to the top of a desk so you will probably still have to reach underneath your desk to plug and unplug items. And remember-- it is 4 ports but you give up one on your computer to plug it in so you are really only gaining 3 USB slots... from Amazon.com I've never had one that was trouble-free, but this one is by far the worst! The only problem I had was not being able to register it at the Linksys web site. My suggestion though is: if you're getting a hub to add more ports, get a hub that has more ports than you expect to use. from Amazon.com Pros: .. Cons: If you look at NewEggs excellent photos you'll note that the LinkSys USB 2.0 Four port Hub is powered by a wall adaptor.
