its a very durable tripod for beginners who wants to shot steady photos using a telephoto lens.
as anyone who has tried to use a telephoto lens without support will tesitfy, it can be very difficult to keep a steady hand.
it has done a fine job for me with a 300 mm telephoto lens.
i shoot a lot of telephoto pictures and hate lugging a tripod around.
i've already used it several times with a canon digital rebel xsi and canon ef 75-300mm f/4-5.6 iii usm telephoto zoom lens, and it's excellent.
even though the manufacturer suggests not using this tripod for slrs, i have no problems using it with my cannon digital rebel slr, even with the 70-300mm telephoto.
it's very portable, lightweight (as long as you're not using an extremely large telephoto lens), and can be set up quickly.
i wouldn't use this tripod with a telephoto lens, until i get used to the trigger lock and stop doing that.
i have canon powershot s3is with the len adaptor and additional telephoto lens, which make the weight totally around 600-700g.
do not use with heavy lenses like telephotos.
works great w/ my 300mm and 400mm telephoto lens.
i'll be using a nikon d80, d200, equipped with wide angle and telephoto lenses.
for anyone who uses a large telephoto lens and needs a solid tripod to support it, the slik pro 700dx amt-titanium alloy tripod is one you should definitely consider.i use mine with a 400mm f/2.8
as detailed in other reviews, it can easily immobilize a big slr and telephoto.
i use exceptionally long telephotos (600 to 1200mm) and telescopes on a frequent basis and stability in a breeze is critical.
can easily handle a large dslr with long telephoto lenses.
also, i tried it recently as a tripod for my nikon d70 and a relatively short and light telephoto lens.
it held my nikon d50 with a telephoto lens.
it is sturdy enough for any of my digital slr's including shorter telephoto lenses.
i have not put any large telephoto lenses on my d70 because i can't seem to get the vaunted telephotos available for it (that's a whole other story).
but, for my purposes, i'm considering that close enough.) given this weight, my heavier telephoto lens is out of the question.
of course, using a telephoto lens like the 70-200 f2.8l is also no problem since the weight is a little more distributed between front and back.
for long telephoto work, and making photographs in windy conditions, etc., you will need something heavier (gitzo studex, for example), but for the majority of amateur pursuits, and most art and
it can support your heavy body camera with a heavy telephoto lens.
i don't have a heavy telephoto.
lean against tree for stability when taking telephoto pics.
and provides the stability and quick set-up needed for those pics of animals and telephoto scenes encountered along the hike.
but if you're using a ff and large telephoto lens i'd consider a ballhead & a manfrotto but for my xsi and 18-55mm + 50mm this tripod works perfectly fine, no shakiness, very steady when shooting,
quite sturdy (for medium dslrs, won't be effective for large telephotos)
