The Slik 700DX is an outstanding value! I bought the legs-only for less than [$]! from Bhphotovideo.com I bought this without reading the product description properly and was angry when there was no where for my camera to fit. After going to B&H Photo he confirmed that I only bought the legs, so that was my stupidity, the good thing was that he recommended another head after allowing me to see the one that I should have bought, so I bought a Manifrotto head which was on special. from Amazon.com Before you purchase this item go to your local store and see for yourself if this is the right size for you. I wouldn't recommend using this tripod in the field, its more for studio use and or outdoor use where you don't have to lug it around so much. I got the Slik 800 ballhead with this and it adds an additional 5-6 inches in height. I use mine with a 400mm f/2.8 lens mounted on a Digital SLR Body which weighs a total of 14.5lbs. from Amazon.com I am not a professional photographer, more like serious part time amateur.
