the tripod does have a hook at the bottom of it (my unit anyway) so you can tie something more substantial to it for more stablization, but as long as your camera isn't an ultra heavy slr , it should

the head of the tripod is basically metal/pvc construction, it doesn't pan/tilt very smoothly, so this shouldn't be your camcorder tripod.

without a weighted bag of rocks (hook for same is included), i don't know how suitable it would be with a heavy-lensed slr or a video cam, but for most consumer digital cameras like mine, it's great.
