Pros: When I initially bought this switch, I had high hopes. It seemed like a dream to have all of the features it offers for the price point. from Newegg.com Pros: Cheap, managed, gigabit ethernet switch. Cons: You get (less than) what you paid for."Webview" only works on windows and IE, command line interface very limited. from Newegg.com Pros: Good price for the features. This "business grade" 8 port gigabit switch runs a LOT cooler than the Linksys home grade 8 port gigabit switch. If you are used to working with IOS the 'lcli' interface offers many of the same commands. from Newegg.com Only IE running on a windows box. This is ridiculous. Also need periodic rebooting (2-3 months) due to a slow degradation of transfer speed. Also ridiculous. from Newegg.com Reflashing is risky - make sure you have a laptop with a serial port handy to recover via serial/xmodem. User interface sucks - IE only and even then you need to destroy your security set up to get it to work. Other Thoughts: I bought this router because it advertised support for igmp snooping and 256 multicast groups - to my knowledge no one has got this to work yet. My multicast sources are all running on Linux so I implemented a workaround by explicity coloring the data by creating vlan interfaces using vconfig and setting the port access on the SRW2008 to control with ports to flood. from Newegg.com Pros: Great switch. I would love to use this for my personal home network that I use to experiment on for work. from Newegg.com Pros: Cheap, capable Cons: Web interface is Internet Explorer only (claims of compatibility involve loading Internet Explorer within Firefox, not an option unless on Windows), telnet interface is incomplete, SSH keys are limited to 512 bits. Other Thoughts: Okay for the price, but I'd look elsewhere for good manageability. from Newegg.com Pros: Originally bought this for its multiple VLAN support AND ACL support, for under 250.00. It does its job with VLANs, Cons: Obscure terms used for VLAN and ACL setup made configuration a little difficult for non-CCNA techies. from Newegg.com
