that being said i would still recommend this telescope because it is the most powerful one you can get in its price range.
you can't buy a telescope for 150 bucks and expect it to come with high precision eye pieces any more than you can expect to buy a car for $9,000 and expect leather seats, power windows and a moon
i found that the stand and mount vibrate too much for viewing planets like saturn and jupiter under higher power (venus and mars aren't worth looking at in my opinion).
i would recommend getting a low power eyepiece to help locate objects.
focusing is hard and scope seems to shake alot when adjusting especially when viewing at high power.
while the scope will still slew with low battery power, it will not work optimally.
the one downer is that it needs 8 aa batteries....so, to save money in the long run, i'd buy both the power tank (12v) and/or at least the celestron ac adapter.
a minor but bothersome problem is that, as far as i can tell by reading and re-reading the user's manual, as well as by going through the entire menu, it is impossible to re-align the scope when it
if you get this scope buy an external power supply of some sort.
buy a power tank for extended searching.
since then, i've added a light pollution filter and a heater to it, along with a denkmeier power switch.
8 "aa" batteries do not last long in this scope, so if you plan to use it for hours at a time, i would suggest that you purchase the ac adapter, car adapter, or power tank to go with it.
i bought the ac power supply.
since the single fork-arm must power motor(s) and the controller, the aa batteries will not last long if you do a lot of slewing.
power hungry.
the unit only supplies power and display.
as someone with a renewed interest in astronomy, i wanted a telescope with good light gathering power (better than what i had as a child, both a 50mm refractor and a 6 inch reflector).
john dobson's simple and portable but powerful scopes opened up the world of deep-sky observing to the average amateur astronomer.
powerful, (with some lens upgrades).
pros: great looks, easy to align, powerful computer for amateur astronomers, great viewing capabilities.
as a low power terestrial scope up to 60x it's resolution is good and it performs very well.
although this is a nice furniture piece and the telescope itself has good power, we encountered many problems with our scope which the manufacturer has ignored and refuses to correct.
this telepscope is a very good telescope.very powerful and clear.easy to use even for a beginner.the only complaint may be the tripod is small and you need to have a sturdy base to set it on for it
the 4" refractor has comparable light gathering power to a 5" reflector (no secondary mirror blocking light).
i also purchased the power tank and an eyepiece/filter kit.
pros: compact, light weight, good optical performance cons: power sensitivity, slow slewing speed, poor finder, seems expensive the bottom line: the idea is nice, but the product only works
this item cannot "see" anything at higher powers and propper eyepieces will mot work propperly on it because they are too heavy for the drive mechanism.
