only thing i would have to say negatively about this unit is the mount that holds it to the goto device - mine slid off one night as the vibrations of the movement loosened the screw clamping the
my first night i looked at jupiter and it left me craving for more.
this scope or any other scope is surely bound to give you hours of pleasure viewing the night skies.
i did a test last night to see how the "tour" mode would work.
we had is set up and ready to use that night.
now that i am sure that i will really be into astronomy as a hobby, i am ready to move on to a larger telescope, but i will keep this one and give it to my kids so they can start to enjoy the night
i now use the telescope every night.
it was even able to handle the increased magnification of a barlow lens and high power eyepiece, for utterly stunning close up views of the lunar surface on a really clear night!
you will also need to buy a star atlas (sky & telescope's pocket sky atlas is the best available), a red flashlight to read it without blowing out your badly-needed night vision, and a guidebook to
i set mine up on a short table in my front yard or i bring out a folding chair for seated viewing and it's perfectly comfortable for long hours of watching the night sky.
my first night out, i got a stunning view of saturn - even at 50x, it was quite unmistakable.
saw first light last night!
that is the only other bad thing, since i received the scope there have only been about 3 clear nights!!
the telescope mount is german equatorial, which was useful as it allows you to track down the star you want to find in the night sky by countering the earth's rotation.
i still don't quite understand all the basics, then again houston hasn't given me any clear nights to practice so far this spring ..
he absolutely loves it and we have spent every night since exploring the stars and moon.
the very night i gave it to them, they (actually, the dad) set it up and enjoyed looking at the moon with it.
my very nice 8" dobsonian reflector became too much to haul to darker skies away from light pollution, so i have been indoors on starry nights for a couple of years now.
i got this telescope for a present, that same night i took it out into my backyard.
the first night i set it up we saw some great images and the nightly tour was a great feature.
it's a pain to have to re-caliburate it every night.
finally, after a few hours, tried to use the supplied eyepieces to view mars on a clear night, the eyepieces, the 9.6mm and 26mm eyepieces did not focus properly, maybe it is just me?
every now and then i like to view the night sky with a telescope.
=o/ i have used the scope for two nights so far.
i havent yet used it much, but in about 2 weeks or so that i have owned the telescope, i have used it each night irrespective of the seeing conditions.
then i used the cd that came with the product and got to know the night sky.
i went right away to test it in my first night.
my grandson really loves his telescope...even stole out of his bed one night..to look at the stars.
a hazy night with tons of light from the street didn't provide the best viewing conditions.
i've already had several nights and mornings of excellent viewing and can't wait to get a look at jupiter when it finally gets high enough to get a decent shot at it.
i'm now looking forward to a moonless night in a dark sky area to really appreciate its potential.
it's too cold outside when its dark in winter and it takes too long to wait for the night time in summer :)
most telescopes out there, even if they are computerized, are still difficult to align to the night sky before beginning use.

i was almost put off from purchasing starry night pro 6 as some previous reviews said it was not compatible with microsoft vista.
it's easy to use and gives great views of th night sky, as well as a lot of additional information.
