The Celestron 21061 Astromaster is a high quality telescope for beginners. I purchased the telescope for my 6 year old son. from Amazon.com I have been a backyard stargazer for several years. My very nice 8" Dobsonian Reflector became too much to haul to darker skies away from light pollution, so I have been indoors on starry nights for a couple of years now. When a local camera shop was going out of business, they had a fabulous blow-out price on a Celestron AZ70 Refractor. I know two things about refractors 1) beware of flimsey tripods and 2) beware of extravagant claims of HIGH POWER. from Amazon.com The celestron 21061 AstroMaster 70 AZ was a great choice for a first refreactor telescope. It has a very sturdy base and easy to use. from Amazon.com i bought this telescope for my son for christmas, it looks like it cost as much as some of the high priced telescopes and it works just as well, this is quite a bang for the buck. from Amazon.com the very night i gave it to them, they (actually, the dad) set it up and enjoyed looking at the moon with it. from Amazon.com he absolutely loves it and we have spent every night since exploring the stars and moon. from Amazon.com this was a christmas present for my 9 year old daughter and she absolutely loves it. from Amazon.com we don't buy a lot of the computer games for our son so we opted for a telescope. from Amazon.com i purchased the telescope for my 6 year old son. from Amazon.com it also doesn't magnify very well, this combined with the fact that it is difficult to aim means that it is only good for looking at objects that are relatively large to begin with (like the moon)and from Amazon.com
