It's a neat idea that needs further refinement. I'm really sorry it didn't work as correspondence with the company has been nice and polite. The Smart Strip will probably work fine with A/V equipment, but I don't have any confidence it will work as intended with my iMac* and am returning it. There were two main issues. from Amazon.com I primarily use them around my computer for turning off monitors, desk lamp, printer, and speakers when I shut down my computer. The biggest drawback is that IT SHOULD NOT BE USED WITH A PLAYSTATION. The power supply on my PS3 burned out and I suspect the hard cut off of power from the smart strip caused it. I would not recommend using this for high end (sensitive) electronics. from Amazon.com This strip works great for my PC environment. A smaller one did not work as well for my TV/Home Theater configuration because I did not think through and anticipate. from Amazon.com I purchased this Smart Strip so that game systems, etc would turn off when I turned off my Samsung TV. The TV seems to go to such a low power state during simple activities, like if the screen is black, or when switching inputs, that the power strip thinks that it's turning off... from Amazon.com Adjusting the sensitivity makes no difference. It's possible that I am unlucky enough to receive a short-lived model, so YMMV. Anyway, these strips are wonderful at keeping the the electricity bill low, but I can accomplish the same by manually switching off the surge protector after shutdown the computer. I would not want to gamble away another $35-$40 just to have it stop working less than 2 years later, when a normal $20 surge protector can last many more years. from Amazon.com I purchased a Smart Strip and hooked up my computer and peripherals. I had to adjust the side screw to get everything to turn off, but it was very easy. from Amazon.com I think the idea behind this product is a good one, but evidently it can't work with all devices. No matter how I set the sensitivity dial, this thing either wouldn't turn on my peripherals when my Mac was powered on, or wouldn't turn them off when I powered off the Mac. I strongly suspect that this is due to the fact that a Mac Mini draws very little power itself, so the Smart Strip wasn't able to register the on/off difference. If that theory is correct, then this product can't be expected to work with a laptop or other small and low-wattage computers. from Amazon.com This is clearly a nice quality solid and well designed surge protector power strip. The energy saving features get some taking used to however, the blue outlet is your "control" outlet....and the blank background outlets all are "controlled" by the blue control outlet....so for example, i plugged my tv into the blue control outlet and all my video game systems and dvd player etc into the blank background outlets. from Amazon.com This is a great power strip! I plug my computer into the control, and when I turn that on everything else turns on (monitor, printer, etc.) I also have a lamp, alarm clock plugged into the always on. from Amazon.com This device works as advertised and performs flawlessly. I plug my fans (transformer into on of the switched outlets and my receiver into the controller outlet. Whenever I turn my stereo on, the power strip automatically turns on my fans (and visa versa when I power down my receiver).
