The system hung during boot at the point where the Silicon Image controller for the SATA ports is initialized. Some bug in the SATA firmware and it can't be updated. So I bought the Addonics SATA converter to put the 2TB hard drive on a regular IDE port. It seemed to work OK at first. from Amazon.com Purchased the Addonics SATA/IDE Adaptor. It was easy to plug in an came with the power adaptor (so I did not have to buy one - even though I did.) I am assuming it is this adaptor that seems to only find the hard drive half the time. from Amazon.com When I went to install the hard drive in the Mediagate, I discovered that the drive had a SATA interface, but the Mediagate would only accept an IDE drive. My wife was understandably upset that the gift she bought me wouldn't work, but I figured there must be some kind of converter on the market and searched online and found some from a few different manufacturers. In general, reviews of these converters showed that people were having problems, but eventually I found a link with results from tests done on the Addonics Converter by a Mac user group: http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/addonics/sata-ide/. That was enough to convince me, and so I purchased the "Addonics ADSAIDE SATA to IDE-ATAPI Converter" here on Amazon.com. from Amazon.com Well, I got this converter because my friend bought me a SATA disc instead of ATA for my XBOX :(. In the xbox didn't work! from Amazon.com this product allows you to use a sata drive and load infomation and data through an ide interface. from Amazon.com as an it professional, one of the services i provide is data recovery. from Amazon.com i installed it and it worked, no issues or nothing i am not using my new 250gb maxtor hard drive! from Amazon.com i used it to replace a failing series3 tivo hard drive (with instantcake) and it worked great. from Amazon.com one thing that bothers me about it is the ide interface portion, the pins feel a bit...flimsy, i suppose. from Amazon.com the connection to the sata card do not connect firmley. from Amazon.com
