After sewing for less than 5 minutes, the thread began bunching up and "birdnesting" until enough thread built up to stop it from running. Singer's online troubleshooting guide says this is usually caused by improper threading, so I re-threaded both the top thread and the bobbin and had the same problem again. Still working under the assumption that I was doing something incorrectly, I switched to a new spool of polyester thread and started over using the DVD to wind a new bobbin and thread it and then double-checking against the manual. from Amazon.com My wife needed a simple basic sewing machine to repair and make adjustments to our clothes.
