it's not perfect, but this server is just for storing backups of other servers and sql databases.
you can't put together a 1u server yourself that fits this good.
this system has excellent quality and ships with everything you would need in a barebone intro level server.
it's cheaper than a 4 drive nas device and can do 10x more.
ram and a processor is a little pricey for it though.
what's great about it:?simple setup and upgrades, available add-ins what's not so great:?a little expensive, no built-in wifi, remote photo uploading is clunky "setup: the mediasmart server sets up
what's great about it:?home-made media backs up fine.
when it's their time to be backed up.i have no complaints about the smartmedia and with the additional ram and other features they packed into their 2nd generation machine, it works better than ever.
a simple product that was up and running 10 miutes after it u=was unpacked.
i had 2 120gb sata drives laying around from old computers; i immediately added those drives to the home server and it worked flawlessly.
Other Thoughts: I had a spare optical drive from when I replaced my notebook's drive with a DVD burner but this server only has IDE/Sata ports so I had to buy a standard to slim atapi adapter which was $10, unfortunately newegg doesn't carry it ...
This little 1U is VERY quiet compared to other servers!
Other Thoughts: We needed a rack mounted server quick for an installation at a customers site.
If you are building a low/mid budget game server or a home file server, I would recommend this one.
Other Thoughts: Not bad for the price but I would expect better design from ASUS.
as long as it turns on when i hit the power button, it's all good!
cons: on top of all that, there is no good manuals available that explain the system codes.
other thoughts: a support call to intel costs $xx per incident.
pros: i can't really think of any, except that i saved quite a bit of money building this myself as opposed to going to dell or something.
pros: feature rich motherboard with integrated video and sata raid cons: !!!
