I have used this drive for more than 5 weeks. We have three individual users and have had zero problems with the storage.
This is an excellent buy for the money. The only issue I had was that when I first installed it on the network, it worked fine, however whenever I re-booted a pc, it would need to be re-installed again. With no help from the manual or Iomega's website, I learned from another site that I needed to download the newest firmware and Iomega Discovery Tool software from Iomega and install both for it work properly.
Be Aware, This drive does not copy files correctly from Windows XP over the ethernet connection. It drops files and gives no error messages!!!
I heard that this network HD was loud and hot, but the price was right so I bought it anyway. I have had it for a few weeks now and it doesn't make a sound and is typically warm for a harddrive.
I would stay away from this drive. I added about 60 gigs of music to it and it took overnight to load it.
I bought this as an inexpensive NAS option for backups for my parents' desktop and notebooks last Christmas and have had a frustrating experience trying to support it ever since, only recently discovering that the lack of NTFS support was the root of the problem. The drive can be formatted with NTFS and used solely over the USB link, but network connectivity requires that the drive be formatted FAT32.
Reliable. Cons: Is it perfect? No, nothing's perfect...fat32 issue is due to mac & ntfs limitation, not the hard drive. Other Thoughts: Recommended.
I tried to format it as NTFS and it apparently can't be done while keeping the ethernet access. For my needs I can't live with the limitations of the FAT format, so this makes this drive equivalent to any other USB drive at 2x price. Other than that, it seems to work fine.
I've had this hard drive for over four years and have never had a problem. I have only used it with USB, not on a home network, but it seems to do an awesome job for the price.
I've had this drive for about a month only now and its been working great. I have it hooked up to my wireless network at home and I can access it from any machine at home.
