other thoughts: i had to manually map out the path to the scanner in the included canon ex browser software in order to scan directly to gimp v2.6 (x64).

the simple work-around solution for that is to make an additional pdf file directly from the scanner, then 'insert' one file into the other when in acrobat to combine the files.
