After a couple of weeks of reviewing various devices to convert slides to digital format, I settled on the Canon 5600F. This just may be the easiest device I've purchased for my computer in over 20 years of computing.

**This scanner is exceptional.** It has several access levels. My favorite way is through the ArcSoft PhotoStudio 5.5 image manipulation program that comes with the scanner.
To access this, Open ArcSoft, then select [File] and then click on [Acquire] to access the ScanGear menu that allows up to 1200 dpi for paper scanning and up to 9600 dpi for film and a host of other manipulation choices for scanning which is way more than necessary.

purchased to replace a Canon 8600 that I had for 2 years. The LED is far superior and overall operation is much smoother

My only disappointment is that it didn't come with an accessory piece that would allow me to scan 120 negatives. Otherwise, everything was perfect with this scanner. Because I had so many 120 negatives, however, I ultimately returned it and got the 8800F Canon scanner, and it's working great. The software these two scanners use is incredible; I can darken, lighten, increase contrast, color level, etc.

Pros: This scanner is amazing!!! I bought this scanner for the sole purpose of scanning my Color and B&W negatives, and I'm really glad I bought it. The scanned pictures come out sharp and crisp, and are also rich in color.

I have been using the Cannon 5600F scanner for three months now. I am an attorney in a small law office, so I use the scanner for scanning in client documents and exhibits.
from Amazon.com
Pros: Fast & quiet. Simple to use if you want low / medium quality fast scans.
from Newegg.com
Pros: I have experience with extremely high-end scanners for the print industry. The Canon 5600F is an amazing value, extremely easy-to-use and set up.
from Newegg.com
Pros: Extremely satisfied with the Canon CanoScan 5600F. Have had it about a month now and have scanned about 400 old slides (Kodachrome, Ektachrome, Agfachrome), 100 color negatives, 200 b/w negatives and around 50 old pics (color and b/w).

I have had this scanner for a few months now; replaced an hp scanner that died. The hp was actually much simpler to use with it's opening dialogue box to do what you want -- preview, then crop, etc., or scan as is.
