What's great about it:?Nothing What's not so great:?Everything "I spent four frustrating hours trying to configure this router to work with 2 Macs. I spent 3 hours talking to DLINK customer service, not a one spoke english, they offered no solution and blamed Apple. from Bestbuy.com First things first. Last week I decided it was time to upgrade my 802.11b network to wireless n. I was trying to stream video wirelessly from my computer to my xbox 360. from Bestbuy.com This quick review is for networking n00bs like me. If you want something easy to install then you seriously need to consider this router. from Amazon.com The DIR-628 router with 1.13 firmware has a nasty firmware bug: you must never disable wireless. If you do disable wireless on the Wireless Settings page and Save Settings, you will not be able to re-enable it or make any other configuration changes. from Amazon.com Pros: It generally works for low-end setups. Cons: Lying marketing/sales scum. If it can't do both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz at the SAME TIME, then it's not "dual band". You can choose to either do b/g OR a/n, but you can't do both at the same time. from Newegg.com Pros: The router was easy to setup. I'm a fairly advanced user and didn't use the setup CD but did it manually. The web interface is clear enough so you won't have to go through reading tons of documentation to get started. from Newegg.com Pros: Inexpensive, 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ support, 802.11n support, good for browsing and streaming. Cons: Can't handle large numbers of connections well, can be finicky about wireless clients, occasionally needs to have internet connection manually reset. from Newegg.com Well, as far as 2 day use goes, it is great. My not wireless printer is hooked up and printed wirelessly (the D-Link SharePort Network USB utility). from Amazon.com Pros: USB port option works good on Windows Cons: USB port option doesn't work well on Mac Other Thoughts: Bought this router expecting to share a USB drive across my mixed network of Mac and PCs. The add in software works okay on Windows machines but doesn't want to work well with my Mac. from Newegg.com The DIR-628 is a fast router, easy to set up, and easy to maintain.
