It just crumbled in my hand. And without the knob, there is no timer and hence, no steamer. Black and Decker used to make quality items, but the knob on this is clearly and predictably flawed. from Target.com You must replace the WHOLE UNIT. Also the timer stopped working, and I had to set my own timer separately. Black & Decker had me snip off the power plug and return it, with $7.50, for a replacement. Weeks later, I received a Black & Decker HS800 Flavor Scente Steamer, which is a cheaper and inferior model. from Amazon.com Just a note to future purchasers. My steamer came without the "Flavor Scenter Screen" that's mounted on the drip tray. I contacted Black and Decker about it, and they said they'll mail me out another drip tray "hopefully with the screen on it, because that model has been discontinued".
