I really do not have enough experience with other steamer - rice cookers to evaluate the Sanyo knowingly. Its good points: it seems sturdy, and it does its job efficiently. from Cooking.com I bought this cooker to replace a Black & Decker 10-cup, which was just too large for one person. This Sanyo works well, with somewhat different timing for the small amount of rice. from Cooking.com I am disappointed with this product overall. The cooking took twice as long as the directions stated it would, and it made a mess with all the sputtering and splattering. from Cooking.com as it turns out, there is a little stainless steel vegetable steamer basket that fits inside the rice cooker to steam vegetables. from Cooking.com the steamer works well, but you have to steam vegetables or dumplings when you are not steaming rice. from Cooking.com i tried cooking a smaller amount of brown rice, and the water all sputtered out fromm under the rid of the lid. from Cooking.com following directions for softer rice, i soaked long grain white rice for 30 minutes before cooking, and the rice was scorched too.. from Cooking.com twice i steamed green beans in the steamer making sure the exact amout of water was used and twice they became scorched. from Cooking.com also the steamer bowl is too small for anything but beans. from Amazon.com Bought this for my son and we both love it.
