My brother and I originally hail from Louisiana and white rice was always a large part of our diet. If you visit that state and go to the supermarket, you will often see 50-pound bags of rice on the aisle shelves. I bought this 6-cup rice cooker two years ago as a convenience while preparing other parts of the meal. Alton Brown hates these cookers, because (aside from a little steamed vegetable tray) they don't 'multi-task'. from Amazon.com I bought this as a replacement to my old Hitachi rice cooker. Within 6 months the teflon coating started to bubble up and then peeled off in spots. Zojirushi replaced the pan under warranty, but accused me of using wrong utensils with it and said they wouldn't replace any more pans under warranty. I soon had the same problem with the replacement pan. from Amazon.com With a little adjustment of the liquids, it will also cook pretty much any other kind of rice or quick cooking grain (I've cooked quinoa, bulgar, rolled oats, couscous and kasha in it). It does not work too well for the long cooking stuff, like barley or spelt, but I don't really cook those often enough to warrant a fuzzy logic cooker. The 6-cup is a great size for a single person or a couple; it's very easy to cook just what you want and no more.
