the bottom line: the rcu400 would not replace your current remotes since you will still need them to control the features introduced in televisions after 1990 since it does not control the menu.
pros: lightweight, big and pleasant keys, night light cons: didn't work with any of my devices except for an rca tv
i got this, supposedly universal, remote about a year ago, planned to use with my tv and dvd.
I bought this remote because I needed to replace a broken TV remote that had the Guide Plus control buttons.
It also only partially worked with my Toshiba TV - it only got power, channel, and volume.
I got them because we have an RCA tv, so setup was easy.
for me it's a stereo with 2 cd players, a dvd player, a vcr (yeah - still a bit lost in the 80's) and, thanks to the learning capability, it's running my television that there aren't any remote codes
the fact that it can learn commands from other ir remotes enabled me to control my old sony multi-system tv.
for example to watch a dvd i've been able to set it up so that the remote sets the tv to dvd input then turns on the dvd player.
using two remotes, the old one and the one that comes with tivo, just fine, although it was inconvenient to have to find the old remote just to raise or lower the volume or turn on and off the tv.
there aren't many bells and whistles, but it does exactly what i need it to do: control a sony tv, a comcast motorola cable box, a panasonic dvd player, and a samsung vcr.
it even has tv guide information right on your remote!
i'd been searching for a remote control that 'could do everything.' and i had a dream of a remote control that was function-oriented ('watch tv' watch vcr) instead of device-oriented.
the bottom line: if you need to control multiple components, in a home theater setup for example, the harmony 676 is a good choice.
the 676 comes with 2 extra coloured plated (red and blue) which may come in handy if it matches your home theater.
however, for normal use with a home theater system, this one is more than enough.
admittedly, i'm only using it to control my sharp tv and a jvc dvd/vcr combo, but it works flawlessly.
after inadvertently spilling some liquid on our zenith tv remote, it was time to find a replacement of some sort.
only weakness is lack of support for some of the higher end features on both my tv and cable box.
pros: large buttons, comfortable design, can control sound from my receiver while still in tv mode.
i bought this remote to replace an older 3-device sony remote control, with the hopes of using it to control (mainly) my series-2 tivo, and every once in a while to control jvc dvd player, toshiba
Cannot activate my TV's onscreen menu.
