I hope that you don't mind me sharing the benefits of my experience with the receiver and I hope that it will be a great help to you. This is my second Onkyo receiver. I had the TX-SR606 a little under a year but sold it so that I could get the extra ten watts that the 706 receiver affords. from Amazon.com Let’s you start your receiver with a low volume of your choice so that you won’t blow your Cons: Absolutely, Positively None! I had the TX-SR606 a little under a year but sold it so that I could get the extra ten watts that the 706 receiver affords. from Newegg.com I purchased the 706 to replace an older Onkyo (TX-DS575X) which has performed flawlessly for 5 years. The replacement was necessary because all of my new AV components output through HDMIs and I want to feed their signals into one single receiver. from Amazon.com The HDMI in/outs acts as a switch and helps to declutter wires. The sound is good. I have a set of Onkyo 7.1 speakers and they sound great. The older one still worked fine, but did not have HDMI hook-ups. from Amazon.com I just finished upacking and installing my TX-SR707. The installation was straight forward, and the Audyssey automated speaker set-up really dialed things in perfectly. from Amazon.com Unfortunately there is no way to get around this issue by connecting the Blue Ray 7.1 Analog OUT to the multichannel inputs of the Receiver and running an HDMI cable directly from the Player to the HDTV without losing all the Audissey capabilities, including Dynamic EQ. At the End I decided to compromise and run the HDMI video & audio stream trough the Receiver, the loss of the Audissey does not compensate for the loss of the Video dynamic range. By the way this is an issue with many Onkyo Receivers, I read on Secrets of Home Theater & High Fidelity that the TX-SR806 does have the same issue. from Amazon.com Heat is not an issue, I am not upscaling the picture which I belive is the chip that heats up. I did however put a fan in the closed cabinet blowing out, to keep air cicurulating and pulling the warm air out. I almost bought the 606, but the 706 was on sale for $514 and the 606 was $440. For all that the 706 offered over the 606 I though it was definetly worth the difference... from Amazon.com Apparently this Onkyo receiver and perhaps others in the Onkyo line have problems with Verizon's FIOS service when using HDMI cables. I suspect that the problem lies with the Verizon set top box/DVR not the receiver but buyers should be aware of the issue. from Amazon.com
