I bought this reciever back in October and it is amazing. It produces every sound imaginable, including every HD sound source. It is very clear and crisp. I had a yamaha reciever before and I think they have the best quality of any other brand out there. from Crutchfield.com My son spilled hot soup on it, but I took out the batteries and let it dry for a day and it worked again. Two weeks ago I decided to test how well it updated the firmware. The process for the 3800 was simple and easy. With all 7 surround speakers hooked up I found I hardly needed my sub woofer except for the lowest neighbor annoying explosions and rumbles. My theater room is 26' by 16' and I seldom am able to tolerate more than 30% volume, so be aware this amp is suited to bigger rooms than that and/or hard to drive speakers. The unit sports just about enough controls on the front panel to make it usable if you lost the (hard to use) remote control. from Amazon.com This is the best receiver you could buy for under $2,000 right now, and maybe the best under $3,000. This is an upgrade for me from the classic DSP-A2070. I didn't expect that the audio would be that much richer and more "live" from the RX-V3800 than my old amp, but it truly is. Previous receiver was an Onkyo 5.1, this is far superior. I am only using it in 5.1 mode instead of the 7.1 because I only have 5 speakers, and am using the other outputs for a second zone outside.
