before i carefully read the directions, i failed to use an ethernet cable to 'teach' the printer the router info, so of course, i couldn't get it to work.

when setting it up for wireless printing, do yourself a favor and use the method that involves temporarily using an ethernet cord to connect the printer and wireless router.

you will need an ethernet cable to attach the printer to your wireless router for the installation, assuming that you are planning on using it wirelessly (and why not?).

if you don't want/need wireless or ethernet look at the previous model the hl2140 it is the same unit with just usb.

the first way is to temporarily use a cat-5 (ethernet) cable, and the other way is to temporarily change your wireless setting to ad-hoc, channel 11, ssid: setup.
