Needing to replace a a small, flatbed Lexmark All-in-One printer (no Fax), and limited by space, the X5070 seemed to fill the bill, offering the added plus of a Faxing capability and PictBridge support; plus I found it at a very good price (plus S&H).
Now to the "nuts and bolts": out of the box (only a few days ago), basic set-up was straightforward - although I haven't yet set selected which Fax connection I will use, so I can't confirm the efficacy (or not!) of this capability on the X5070.

I have gone so far as to uninstall the software and reinstall everything. The scanner has only worked once and I have learned there is some issue with the software with this model and the scanning function. The issue has not been corrected by Lexmark. Consequently I have purchased another all in one by another company and trust I'll have better luck with it.

Meaning: you don't lay the objects you want to be scanned on a flat piece of glass on the machine. Instead, you feed the documents *into* the machine, as you would a document being faxed, and the machine spits them out one-by-one after the scan.
In other words, you can't scan images from books, trading cards, or anything that's not 8" x 11" and single-sheet thin. You also can't scan anyting you wouldn't want to risk being mangled in the paper jams all printers have from time to time - like, oh, say, precious family photos, eBay merchandise, crucial documents...

About four months after purchase I kept getting error messages that prevented printing. After trying different things I finally called Lexmark support, whose tech couldn't get it to work either so they replaced it. It's quieter but much slower than my old Lexmark printer, maybe because it's a 3-in-1.

We've had this printer/scanner/fax for about 6 months, and I will not be buying another Lexmark product (this is our second Lexmark printer with the same problem). It misfeeds nearly every piece of paper I put into it, so I have to babysit it every time I need to print.

The quality is pretty good even for photos. Cons: The only problem I am having is with the drivers. I know I put up with bad drivers on an older Lexmark for awhile before they made a patch for it. No matter what I do it has problems with communication.

I've had this all in one printer scanner fax copier for a while.
At about $80.00 the cost wasn't bad.

You know - the important stuff of which you'd want to create a scanned digital back-up in the first place.
