Pros: Duplex printing, networkable Cons: Awful company, awful product. The Bottom Line: Don't buy this (or any) Samsung product. Review: The features of this printer are quite good for the price.

Pros love the automatic two-side printing, easy set-up, price, many functions for the price, size. I have had it a little over a week and have no complaints. Hope it lasts 9+ years like my last HP laser printer. Cons None yet!

Warning - this printer is prone to have major problems. I got the Samsung ML2851 and it worked for a couple weeks and then started having problems. It frequently has paper jams that are nearly impossible to remove and are time consuming.

We bought a laser printer, a Samsung ML-2851. It connects to our LAN via an ethernet cable, so it's available to all our computers.

We ran into a few glitches trying to get this printer setup. We have had many prior printers, Laser and Multipurpose, so it is not as if we are newbies. The rear duplex cover came separate and the guide didn't show where this piece went and we couldn't get it to fit anywhere.

the one at home i got on sale for 99 at officemax online and am wondering if they sold me a refurbished unit that is a lemon. really love this printer and wish it would just work!
added note; after haggling with samsung warranty service they finally agreed to send me a brand new one instead of a refurbished unit (which is what they send you while you are under warranty).

Perhaps five times out of a hundred the paper doesn't feed at the right moment on the second pass so that the top and bottom margins can be a bit off. However, considering that relatively few printers in this price range even have a duplexer, let alone one for which there is no upcharge, I would be a piker to complain too much about it.
I researched low-end monochrome lasers pretty extensively before buying this one. In my relatively well informed opinion, it is best-in-class.

I've been using the printer for over 6 months. I print 1,000 - 2,000 pages every month. The Samsung ML-2851ND Network-Ready Monochrome Laser Printer works very well for my purposes.
I am running MAC OS 10.5.6 on a computer that is hooked to the printer via USB cable and MAC OS 10.4 on a computer that is hooked to the printer via network.

After speaking at length with support - and against my better judgement - I purchased a new cartridge and the smearing problem was solved. But if it hadn't been, I would have been out $65.00. Samsung, "Get with it and pack a decent cartridge with your printers. You'll save everyone a lot of headaches and $ - yourself included." The second problem is with paper handling.

After not using for 30 minutes or more (printer in sleep mode?), the first one or two pages out jams consistently - this is really annoying. It happens so consistently and in the same way (paper prematurely stopped to begin retracting for 2nd-side printing), seems like it's a design flaw or sensor failure. Samsung support is useless - your only option is to exchange for a factory-reconditioned unit (I don't want someone else's problems in exchange for an almost-new unit). This problem does not occur for single-sided printing, but that wastes a lot of paper.
