it takes interference from my 2.4ghz cordless phone, but i am not running real-time apps over it so no worries - it just bogs down a bit when i'm on the phone.
the installation can be a bit tricky -- you first have to connect (via wire) directly to one of the four wired ports in order to give it the wep key to your wireless router access.
strengths: nice size and appearance, includes built-in 4 port switch, great price for wireless ethernet bridge, quick install, good range weaknesses: some might find this object to be a bit large
other thoughts: setup for print servers seem to be a bit more complicated compared to other wireless devices, and the instructions don't do a very good job explaining the process.
set up was simple, the only tricky bit was first having to set the ip address of the setup computer to the correct subnet manually so it would see the switch for initial setup.
this product does exactly what a print server should do, plus a little bit more.
i know quite a bit about networking but i couldn't get my linksys print server to work very long...this one was on sale and it works much better!
initial installation was a bit sticky because of vague instructions and abysmal tech support, but if you have the patience to go through the setup process carefully and can get by without the
the drivers prior to completely this step because otherwise the printer_setup.exe might ask for a cd which i only use the most recent stuff off hp's website; might cause a little bit of problems.
i was a bit apprehensive in purchasing this unit but i thought i would give it a try.
i haven't used the usb port and networked usb devices are a bit dicey in my experience.
the itty-bitty-print-server market could use some improvement.
oh yeah - you just gotta love newegg!cons: setup for 2 printers was a bit different than the hardcopy manual for 1, but i didn't even have to look it up.
setup was physically simple, but software-wise it was a bit of a challenge.
works well with epson stylus photo 900 (although not on d-link approved list).cons: a bit too expensive.
to be honest i read some of the other reviews about this product other people had written here and i was a bit worried.
i am always a bit skeptical of refurbished products, but linksys seems to get it right.
strengths: easy set up, small package weaknesses: seems a bit warm, unclear instructions, doesn't support non-printing fuctionality summary: i was a little nervous purchasing this to use in
a great little gizmo even though i was initially a bit hesitant based on some of the negative product reviews on this site.
(the instructions claim that you do not need to do this, but i did it anyway.) i use 64-bit wep encryption and have a linksys wireless-b router.
comments: good print server for the price requires a bit of know how when it comes to tcp/ip.
other thoughts: i guess if you have difficulty setting a static ip address on your computer then this print server (along with probably every other computer hardware part) might be a bit difficult.
took a bit of playing with it to get everything to work properly.
pros: easy to use interface both in http and in the psadmin utility, quick to install, no problemscons: printer drivers installed on each client, instructions a bit difficult to follow (poor
pros: multi-port print server that supports most printing protocols (windows, unix and apple) systems at a cheap price.cons: parallel port is a bit slow.
five stars because i think it could have been designed to utilize electricity more efficiently (the lights on the router never go off) and the installation, though without a hitch, was a bit tedious.
it was a wise choice, although a bit confusing with the installation, it works perfectly and i have had no problems so far.
once i lowered the firewall a little bit, i had no problems.
since half of the reviews were negative i was a bit skeptical, but the hp wireless printing kit is really easy to use & very convenient.
i didn't give it five stars because i think it could have been designed to utilize electricity more efficiently (the lights on the router never go off) and the installation, though without a hitch,
i was a bit skeptic about this wireless thing but since we didnt want anymore clutter of cords lying all over the place, i decided to try it, instead of buying an expensive wireless all in one
i am not a computer geek and was a bit uncertain as to how this would work.
i would have given a 5 star rating if the connection manager worked a bit more quickly.
there is another model looks just like this that you can add to an existing wireless network alot easier, but this one bites, but get it if you need it, i didnt!!
with xp sp2, setup was a bit clumsey.
i'd give it five starts if it was a little bit cheaper.
the quick start manual is a bit confusing on how to add to printer under windows.
works great with hp laserjet 2420 cons: the setup needs to be a bit more clear.
this print server is an unfortunate bit of kit that escaped from the lab.
easy to configure.cons: software configuration utility a bit strange.other thoughts: i purcahsed this print server to work with a printer i bought at the same time.
instructions bundled with unit did not work with windows 2000.other thoughts: probably best wireless parallel port option out there, although a bit pricey when used with legacy printers.
no problems with vista 64 bit ultimate or home premium.
cost a bit of power though, if this is the only thing you're using on the network, and may have bandwidth issues, unlike the extender.
it is only a couple of clicks away, but it is a bitch trying to share a printer with 4 people when they have to remember to disconnect from the printer so someone else can use it.
prosusb 2.0, web configuration, small footprint, easy setupi hooked this up to a canon pixima mp780 and 2 custom built pcs and a dell 1501 laptop works great on all 3good documentation found on the
the web interface for the server is quite a bit clunkier than that of the linksys and it lacks the extra external ports meaning i had to dig out a spare 5-port switch to plug in next to the print
this item does a require a little bit of networking knowledge and imagination in order to configure it for use in your network.
comments: after a little while bit of tinkering this server performed well.
works flawlessly with the pc.cons: takes a bit of work to configure on a mac.
one bit of information that i could not find in the furnished documentation, was the user name for loging into the print server useing the browser.
we were willing to give up a bit of functionality for the convenience of not having to share the printer from a workstation (and constantly keeping that workstation powered-on).
a bit of fiddling with network settings did not help.
also, it is a bit slow to start printing at times.
small size.cons: a bit slow in processing data but c'mon it's not an industrial print server.
2 vista 64 home prem, 1 32 vista ultimate and 1 xp sp3 32 bit.
this print server was a breeze to setup (a bit monotonous on every computer though) and worked as it should.
i am already a big fan of linksys and the print server reinforced my opinion.absolutely a breeze to set up, even with 128 bit wep encryption and mac address security enabled on my router.downloaded
the instructions are detailed, broken down into easy bites and led me to first time success with nary a misstep.
product works great.have yet to try it with my mac.installation was a bit difficult because your printer and the print server both have to be at the router and have power.
i had a bit of an issue until i found in the manual, 'note: linksys strongly recommends that you set up your printer and install your printer's driver before you install the printserver's driver.' i
fix is simple, well sort-of it requires you to know little bit of networking.
nothing fancy, just a stone simple bit of hardware.
the printer function works smooth cons: the xp driver install is little bit tricky
pros: convenience of sharing usb printer from each pc idependent cons: it runs a bit hot, reboots every so often.
