Wize Buying Guide for Car
A portable DVD player in the car can save everyone's sanity on family road trips. They have longer battery life and more features than a laptop, and since they're much lighter and smaller, they're easier to tote along. This product guide should take the headache out of buying a DVD player for your car, which is sure to take the headache out of car trips.

You'll have to balance portability with screen size - clearly, the bigger the screen, the sharper the image, but the harder the unit will be to carry with you. Most units range from 5" to 10" in screen size; the sweet spot for price and quality of image is usually around 7". Budget shoppers, will find that smaller screens still provide a good image, however it isn't as easy for multiple viewers to see, which may be a concern if you travel with more than one kid.

One of the biggest drawbacks to a portable DVD player is the sound quality, since the small speakers built into these units usually produce fairly lackluster audio. Most people enjoy using their portable DVD players with a set of good headphones, so once again, if you want multiple viewers to watch at once, look for a unit with multiple headphone jacks. An added benefit: this can keep the car nice and quiet during those long, zany rides.

If you have a lot of movies stored on your computer, make sure your portable DVD player will read those file formats from a burned DVD-R or CD-R disc (typically DivX, MPEG4 and AVI).

Happy trails!
