I purchased the 8" Memorex about 2 weeks ago for my daughter's Birthday. We had 2 of them before and they had lasted 2 years. from Target.com Purchased this, trusting the Memorex name. Working well for a few weeks, then wouldn't read discs and eventually got the no disc error other reviewers mention. from Target.com Loved it when I got it. Great features, beautiful screen. Used a few times then went on vacation. from Target.com For a 10.2" screen size, it's cheap. But it suffers from a host of painful design flaws. from Target.com After my surround system died I needed to quickly buy an inexpensive DVD player. I choose this Memorex player because it was in my price range, it seemed to have a few features that I liked and my past positive experineces with the memorex brand (I've had other memorex products before. Although they aren't high end products they have always been of good quality, until now.) Within 2 weeks and using it approximately 5 times it simply quit. from Target.com I bought this for a trip we took at the beginning of March. I LOVE the big screen the battery life is excellent! comes with all of the cords needed. from Target.com From day 1 we had the same problem as most of the other reviewers - it always thinks the top is open. We have to restart it 5 times to watch one DVD. And don't dare try to touch it while it's playing, even to just change the screen angle or adjust the volume - it will shut down! A PIECE OF JUNK from Target.com I bought this last player for one reason only. It is a superstar at playing burned backup copies of my DVD collection. I have several other (much more expensive, upconverting, etc.) DVD players in my house that have much trouble reading dual layer burned copies, but not this little Memorex player. I don't think the picture quite rivals my more expensive players, but it works fantasically for what I need it to do. from Amazon.com The first one of these that I bought from Amazon broke within 5 uses, displaying a "split screen" effect that would not go away. Amazon replaced the product for me (good on them) but it didn't take the replacement much longer to just plain old stop playing DVD's. from Amazon.com I swear to god this DVD player died after 2 uses! I was looking for a simple DVD player since I don't watch that often so as soon as I got this I threw the boxes away and set it up. Bad move - flurry of "Bad disk" errors and jumbled images followed with everything I put in there, despite those same DVD's playing well in my XBOX. Memorex can keep the 25 bucks they ripped from me - but hopefully this review will keep others from going down that path! from Amazon.com
