But... one week after the warranty expired it stopped playing half of my DVD's, would not read them. I called Philips customer service and was told that since the warranty expired one week earlier I could take it somewhere to have it looked fixed, at my cost!! With all of these companies hurting for business you would think they would try to retain their customers.
I purchased this beautiful DVD player because the specifications state that it will play PAL DVDs out of the box. I called Philips 'Customer Care and they confirmed it does NOT!! It is a very attractive NTSC player.
Unfortunately, not only did Philips mis-advertise this product, but the incorrect advertsing is still on their website and everywhere else. One would think that when caught with a serious error in description, the company would at least correct it as quickly as possible.
Cons Video Quality. Compared to my earlier player - 8" Magnavox Player(MPD820), the video quality in PET 1030 is very poor with distortion - visible vertical lines equally spaced all over the screen - annoying aspect. The picture quality in Magnavox(MPD820) is brilliant, virtually without any distortion.
Upgraded from a pet1000 to the 1030. 1030 more flexible.
Phillips PET-1030/37 Review
I purchased the Philips PET1030 last month before taking a long drive to North Carolina with my wife and 2 year old son. The primary purpose was to keep him entertained while sitting in the car for over 5 hours.
Problem is, the unit is only available in the end of August. Also, the replacement unit they wanted to give me instead was like buying a Mercedes and getting a Saturn to replacement (if i wanted a dual monitor unit, i would have bought one in the first place and offer a $100 tip to the Tech Support). Philips did offer to refund the total amount after faxing them a copy of my Invoice. Problem is...
Hello, I have purchased Philips PET 1030 player. I am very satisfied with it, however there is one problem.
Just a matter of time 'til wires break or get torn out. Trouble caused by design ? Other Thoughts: Philips customer service was very friendly, no waiting line ... wow.
