To high = kernals get smashed under the rod, to low = scrape the heating element.

Presumably it is in the corn and you eat it - assuming you eat the popcorn (I didn't, as it tasted awful, what with the burnt taste, unpopped kernals throughout, and the corn didn't puff up, but was small when popped).
