My one son's never worked & then a recall was issued. We sent all 3 back & received new units. We can get most items set on it, but so far it has not actually worked when the local tests are run, so I'm sure we would not be notified if an actual weather situation was in our area. I'm still looking for an alert radio that works all the time. from Amazon.com First, the pro's: Small device, easy to use once programmed, very portable and great while on the road, at a park, in the office, car, etc. Quick access to the weather radio, alerts, etc. That's why I bought it... from Amazon.com I bought another brand of handheld NOAA alert radio and placed it in the same spot this has sat for 3 years. The new radio picked up two signals (3 and 7). The Oregon one could only barely pick up channel 7; the new one gets 3 and 7. The radio COULD be difficult for some people to set up if they are not comfortable with electronics (or reading directions). Reception is clear in our house and the weather alerts certainly can roll you out of bed when they go off in the middle of the night. I was looking for a weather radio with SAME technology that could also sit on my dresser. from Amazon.com I don't know if any other hand-held gives you that option, but it sure would be nice. You can set it to mute, but the flashing light is tiny. When I'm in my home county, I take it with me when the weather looks bad and set it to turn the radio on if an alert is issued. This radio comes with an AC adaptor but IS NOT RECHARGABLE--I sure wish it were! from Amazon.com We have been very pleased with this weather radio and have recommended it to friends.
