After purchasing 6 Superadio III's over 5 years (myself and as gifts) I can no longer recommend. I'm an avid AM radio listener in Canada and was pleased with the overall value-for-money of the first three by GE. from Amazon.com I love Amazon and would have bought this radio from them....just didn't check Amazon first. So... I paid 49.95 for my Super Radio. I have owned three CCrane radios. from Amazon.com They are not particularly long lived. The sound is great and station selectivity is pretty good. Little fade or distortion even at high volume. Battery life is great. from Amazon.com I recently moved to a different side of the building and lost the optimal position for my cheap radio for reception of the AM station I prefer. The station was still audible but heavy with static that made it unbearable. I read the reviews for the RCA RP7887 AM/FM Super Portable Radio and placed the order. The reception for the station I prefer is very good again despite the poor location of my window. from Amazon.com My Super Radio arrived today. I promptly installed batteries and WOW what a sound. from Amazon.com I read that the quality of some of the radios was questionable. Just received the replacement radio today, and I am PLEASED! The FM is great....the AM is great...it sounds great (big full sound)....in summary, really good sound & performance for a low price (about $40). They're great for "dxing," long distance listening. from Amazon.com One disadvantage is that the AM antenna is not rotatable separate of the radio--so if you are listening to a weak signal, you may have to turn the radio to an undesirable direction for best reception. If you like AM listening, there's really only two portable radios with good built-in AM antennas out there: this one and the Sangean. The RCA is an analog tuner, and the Sangean is digital. I don't have the Sangean so I cannot make that comparison, but I do know that this RCA will pick up lots of stations better that lesser AM radios I have will. from Amazon.com RCA Radio has poor tuning, the dialing is too sensitive between stations. Buttons and dials looks cheap. from Amazon.com I am an electronics person, by nature, so I naturally went for a long distance AM receiver which this set did quite well, considering I was at a radio station in the basement of a stone building ! I realize that some of the reviews were less than flattering, down through the years, but it was a doable situation. Didn't want to bring my original Superadio to work, since it is a gem, and buries the ones that came later. After unpacking the set and turning it on, it didn't take long to realize that the AM was very fouled up, noisy and not able to be tuned selectively up and down the dial, stations at the wrong place on the dial, poor sensitivity, etc. from Amazon.com
