not sure if it would choke on office or not, we use gmail & google docs, it is a netbook after all...

the only issue is ie performance seems slow, but you can install google chrome browser to over come it.
i also don't plan on using ms office or works, i'll use google docs online for all of that and i can get a free viewer for word, excel, and powerpoing from the micrsoft website if i need to view one
google docs pretty much keeps my thesis and notes accessible.
it works great in skype and google chat--in fact, the image quality especially in low light is better than that of the much bigger labtec on my desktop pc.
when google desktop would not relinquish control of a friends acer, it took several hours until we were able to initiate the restore process and *then* reboot.
screen size is adequate for web cruising and it's powerful enough to handle google earth.
i've used it to surf the web with firefox and worked on my house design with google sketchup.

i don't bother with the pad and use a logitech v550 nano (small usb plug) google earth is okay even with the lowered res.
and blogging--i used it in new zealand, using google blogspot & picasa, worked flawlessly, if a bit slowly.
fast to boot up and faster to surf when using google chrome browser or something similar.

those who are stuck in the conventionalities of windows compatibilities such as msn messenger, yahoo, and googletalk, while it does work on the one you'd be better off getting the model with windows
i have recently been trying to figure out a way to download educational podcasts intended for use with itunes, but from a brief survey with google, it seems as if there may be a work around for that.
if you are adventurous, do a google search for "acer aspire one tips" to find out how to customize this laptop and add linux software.
the new google chrome is very fast on this machine.
if you want to use anything other than the default software you're going to have to get comfortable with google and your terminal screen.
i read that this is because the sata controller backs up with small writes and has to play catch up - there are some tweaks out there (just google it) and they help, though the problem is still there.

to kind of give you an idea of what a netbook can do, i will let you know what i am running on it.*windows xp (you can run windows 7, but make sure you get the ram upgrade, but i would recommend xp
it is rated at the top in its class for almost every feature it has- just google it!

google this issue just about everyone has had this problem, but with some tinkering it was fixed.
