Wize Buying Guide for Graphic Design
As a graphic designer, your considerations for buying a laptop can differ somewhat from the average laptop user. The most important features to consider are:
- Screen Size
If you’re going to be editing and creating graphics, screen real estate should be the first factor you consider. Bigger is better! 17” models are nice and roomy, so that using Photoshop and other graphic editors won't be slowed down by cramped working conditions.
- Installed RAM
Adobe, Corel, and most other graphic editing software requires some heavy lifting, so make sure that your processor is fast and that your installed RAM is at least 1 GB. 2 GB is recommended for a faster, more seamless editing experience. If you’re going to be working with large files with hundreds of layers, more than 2 GB of ram might be a good idea.
- Hard Drive
All those programs and saved copies of images can eat up a lot of disk space. Make sure you laptop has at least 160 GB if you’re going to be doing a large volume of work. And if you intend to store videos on your laptop as well, you might want to upgrade. One video can be upwards of 1GB alone!
