I have played mostly FPS games in the past using both the N50 and N52 pads, which IMO are the best possible alternative to the keyboard you can get. I have read the other reviews before buying, and I see some of their points...this device is not for everyone.
I have received and been using the Belkin N52TE to play some of the Delta Force series games and several other first person shooter/sniper type games, and am very happy with it. The Belkin N52TE was extremely easy to configure and customize to my game playing style, and has enabled me to put amost all of the controls in easy reach with one hand operation, instead of using the bulky pc keyboard.
Clunky, buttons stick, software non-intuitive. If this is tournament grade, there's gonna be some shattered screens at the tourny they are used in. Getting the buttons setup how u want them is a bit confusing, but possible.
While the product does function, and quite well, Belkin has abandoned the product completely. No drivers are available outside of the CD that comes with the device.
Anyway it looked to pretty and nice for me to pass up, the blue back light calling to me, and I couldn't help myself and I took the chance and blindly bought it, like a good consumer, pulled it out of the box and plugged her in. Now I understand why it was calling to me in such a way, this thing is friggin awesome, I never used the old n52 so I can not speak to that. But this is wonderful, I'm not sure why I was so skeptical, all the bad reviews are wrong IMO.
* I haven't experienced the "tilting-backward" problem I've seen in other reviews - in fact, on my keyboard tray this thing sits nice-flat-solid for a device that weighs next-to-nothing. * The obnoxious blue backlight can be turned off with a single switch on the bottom.* every key is programmable.* tight design (which may be a drawback for thems with bigger hands; mine are only a bit larger-than-average so this is a "pro" for me) Cons: The main drawback is the controlling software; Belkin needs to get this upgraded or (if other reviews are reasonably accurate) go back to using an updated software interface from the older model (which I have never used so can't confirm or deny). * All of the keys on this thing are a bit stiff, especially the D-pad.
Pros: so much power in your fingertips Cons: my left alt button got wimpy without much use
Pros: I have use the N52 keyboard since 2004, when it was Belkin-Nostromo, and it is the greatest single piece of gear to make gaming a pleasure. It is very well built and uber easy to use.
Pros: Great for MMOs, looks great, comfortable, software relatively simple (I had no problems). Cons: Wish there was an extra button above the space key.
Pros: *This speedpad removes your hand from the akward keyboard position allowing you to position yourself in a much more comfortable manner, as well a versatile.*The adjustable hand sizing is very convenient.*Very comfortable! Your hand wont cramp or get tired from akward movements with your fingers.*Cool blue backlighting! In MMO's, being able to leave A S D F movement for the thumbstick and mouse combination really put all of your spells at fingertip.
Whether your passion is rooted in FPS, MMORPG or RTS games, the n52te SpeedPad Gaming Keypad from Belkin is built to dominate with swift execution.
