Best PC Desktops for Basic Use
The latest PC
computers come with the Vista operating system: make sure to select the
Home Premium edition, because the Home Basic edition has very few features
even for a basic computer.
For most basic computer operations today you need to have at least a 250 GB hard drive to handle programs that use up a large amount of hard drive space.
You should select at least 1 GB of RAM so that any program you install on your PC desktop computer will run at optimum speed, even for computers that are only being purchased for basic uses. A slow computer will be extremely frustrating!
When you are shopping for a computer, select the “show more details” tab in the Vista Welcome Center. Look for a performance level of 3.5 or greater, and avoid any PC with a lower performance level. If you do not know how find the performance level, ask the salesperson to show you.
Other key features in a basic PC desktop include: an Intel or AMD processor of at least 1 GB speed, monitor that is 17 to 19 inches for optimum viewing, 2 external speakers, a CD reader/writer, and simple inkjet printer for use in a home.
