all i had to do was plug it in and i was in business.
i did install an asus wm8500 gt silent (passive cooling) video card into the pci express 16 slot, it works great.
this is my 2nd hp, the first one from 2004 (xp pro on it) is still working great and is in another room for my teenage daughter.
a great desktop for those that want a powerful pc for their home office.
the bad news is that some of my older software took a bit of work to get vista to accept it -- for example, i had to contact hp to get updated drivers so my printer would interface.
installed xp to use all the features from my multi-purpose printer and it works great over the network.
the gigabit ethernet nic) are supported after a fresh install by only the newest linux distros.
you can install any os you want.
installed ubuntu 8.10, no problems whatsoever.
the other work around is to use the dvi-to-vga adapter that comes with the eee box.* not good for someone that likes to multi-task and have many applications running at the same time, sometimes the
"package deal rocks with 22" lcdloaded it with business files and programs and handled it all.
only gripe so far is cheep infared system using 'dongles' rather than a normal receiver and a remote that has no documentation that relates to it specifically.
which a second hard drive and dvd player will be added very soon.the documentation for the system flat out stinks, setting up the basics were easy enough since i am a computer tech/ magician lol.
i can't cleanly uninstall/re-install it, although i've tried numerous times.

d-link (newegg item # n82e16833127218), but i was not sure it would fit properly, so i opted for a usb adapter (i chose encore's enuwi-n, newegg item #n82e16833180053) which is working just fine.
it also comes preloaded with very little extra software, so it's pretty much ready to use out of the box.
it is very quite in comparison to older pcs that are around my office.
also keep in mind that this system does not have an antivirus pre-installed so be sure to load it with your favorite antivirus before going crazy w/ online browsing.
it has what everyone desires in a home and/or small business computer at a fantastic price.

the dual core processor is plenty powerful and chugs through even multiple demanding applications.
this is not a gaming computer though but will probably do a decent job on medium settings.
i can run large games (such as world of warcraft) very smoothly, and running other programs while doing that.

i haven't found any programs that it can handle and i even played a few games on it, not anything that takes alot of power but it will run call of duty 2 at a good frame rate but i don't recommended

i've been able to install software i needed and uninstall preloaded software that i didn't need with ease.
6 gb of ram is plenty of power to handle demanding programs, but you can expand the ram up to 16 gb if you need to.
for office work, ppt, desktop publishing it has the capacity to get the job done.
it could, however, do without all the hp applications that come pre-installed (i uninstalled them).
(i'm testing windows 7 and i won't need it on this machine.) even the keyboard is better than most budget (not software loaded- you can buy it yourself cheaper anyway machines).
it completely screams when asked to do anything multimedia related, and cruises on native ms programs like office 2007 as well.
it plays all my current applications and one's that i had from before!
the first day i got this, i spent 3 hours just playing with the touch screen and all the cool programs that come with it.
the touchscreen software is pretty good, but the little 'pop-out' toolbar at the side can be incredibly annoying.
i required the touch screen for proper operation of the software being implemented.
in short, i now have four asus devices and i plan on buying one or two more for specific device applications.

following up on my prior review (which has not yet been approved/posted) i attempted to install vista ultimate 64 bit on the machine and it would not take; i.e.
purchased mine at office max as they had it on sale without the hassle of submitting the rebate form as at depot.
it handles many big programs open at once.
after about 10 minutes typing on the keyboard i decided i liked it, cons: the winxp install is a kludge, asus's cutsy add-ons are fluff, and the on screen keyboard (under winxp) is odd at best.
they aren't overcharging for adding a touch screen (since hackers know true cost after doing mods to the netbooks for a while now) and the initial install is zippy enough for general computer usage.

the other day, i had the entire office 2007 suite open, editing documents, winamp playing mp3's, e-mule running, several firefox browser windows, burned a cd using nero 9 and then decided to run
however, the windows vista 64 bit is a bit inconvenient with the fact that their is several softwares it is uncompatible with.
this computer is working well.
the install was a breeze!
the built in touchsmart software provides an easy, graphical way to launch programs with a simple touch.
hp did a fantastic job with the overall design, it is an attractive pc and we like the touchscreen software provided.
the touchscreen software was very user friendly and i mastered it in no time.
i dont use the hp software that comes with it, and i know some folks have had some issues, all in all its a great buy at a great price.
i played with the touch screen and it seems to work fine with the limited software provided.
it took awhile to get all the updates(automatically of course), but once all were installed (about 2 days) all programs worked beautifully.
when using the touchsmart software it can be a bit sluggish, and seems to have a problem defaulting back to original settings.
one recommendation i have is if you don't use the touchsmart screen alot keep it turned off until you use it it will leave you with alot more ram but it will take the touchsmart software longer to
on a hunch i uninstalled the norton antivirus software that came bundled and installed a different free one, and it ran much faster and worked much better.
